Hiring a Van or Bus for Trekking Groups and Tours in Nepal

For a group, one vehicle with a driver is usually cheaper, simpler and more sociable than several cars or public buses. Here is how to choose the right size and plan the logistics.

Sizing: count the bags, not just the people

Trekking groups travel with large duffels, and those take up space. A 12-seat Hiace is comfortable for around eight to ten trekkers with full gear. A 22-seat Coaster suits larger groups, or a medium group with a lot of luggage. If in doubt, size up.

• Kathmandu airport to hotel on arrival, and back on departure
• Kathmandu to Pokhara, the start point for the Annapurna region treks
• Pokhara to trailheads such as Nayapul or the Annapurna Base Camp approach roads
• Kathmandu Valley sightseeing days for schools, companies and wedding guests

Rough roads to trailheads

Some trailhead roads are unpaved and steep. A large bus may not be able to reach the very end. We will tell you honestly what each vehicle can manage, and for the roughest tracks a local jeep may be needed for the final stretch.
